On My Radar for Summer 2019: An Isekai, An Isekai with a Mom, Vikings and a Detective.

Hey Guys.

Spring 2019 is wrapping up in two weeks and the Summer season is right around the corner. While I’ll be busy delving into my season long look into High School DxD aptly named The Summer of Love, I will also be catching a few shows that are hitting screens during the sunshine months. I’ll also be continuing to watch shows like YU-NO and Fruits Basket. The list isn’t much now, but you can check our my initial picks after the cut!

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou
Isekai one of FOUR this season.

My Initial thoughts: Isekai is showing NO signs of slowing down this year with four (four!) new shows stepping up this summer. Out of all them, World’s Strongest seems to be the most generic, yet interesting of the lot. I’ve heard a little about this series, mostly that the start is very striking and fresh before falling into standard isekai/harem antics. Since I know that going in, I think I’ll be more receptive to the series than I was with Wiseman’s Grandchild. I wonder if this series will get the same positive reception that one did, we’ll have to see!

Vinland Saga

Vinland Saga
This Year’s Golden Kamuy?

My Initial thoughts: I no almost NOTHING about Vinland Saga, other than it is about vikings, which is a culture that I don’t think has ever been really depicted in anime before. Is it more like Berserk? Or does it have a splash of Golden Kamuy? I’m really curious to see what I’ll think of this one and I’m going to go in with little knowledge.

Lord El-Melloi II Case Files (Detective Waver)

Anime Severus Snape/Hot Waver in the house!

My Initial thoughts: The pilot episode of this already launched back at the start of 2019 and it was freaking great. A spin off of the Fate series staring Fate Zero’s Waver Velvet, this seems like it’s going to be a series about the parts of the magical world not tied to the Holy Grail War. I’m keeping my expectations in firm check, but if they maintain the same level of quality as the pilot did, this is going to be a fun ride. I love the Fate series and any chance to step back, no matter how small, is always welcome

Do You Love your Mom and her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? (Isekai MILF)

Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki Desu ka?
Ara-Ara Motherfuckers

My Initial Thoughts: Please don’t be bad, just be decent. Please don’t be bad, just be decent. Please don’t be bad, just be decent. Please don’t be bad, just be decent. Please don’t be-

    • I loved Slime, more the first half than the second part which wasn’t as good, but Slime was awesome. Though I am a very easy person to please when it comes to my anime tastes.

      • I’ll be writing a review about it soon.. surprised you enjoyed it more than Death March? I’d even say that Death March was several steps above slime, which was just a boring “let’s help everyone!” anime

      • I have to respectfully disagree, Death March felt more like a “let’s run around and help people” while Slime took it’s time to get the lead settle into the world and had a great storyline with the Shizu stuff, and such a great ending to that. The second half was more your generic stuff, but Slime really was solid for those first 13 or so episodes. Death March felt like a poor man’s Isekai Smartphone.

I can remember a lot of Slime, characters, moments, motivations. I can’t remember a single damn thing about Death March, and I watched both around the same time.
