Don’t @ Me: Ten of my Opinions: The Dewbond Edition?

Welcome back to Don’t @ Me, where I have either created the best one of these yet, or reached the moment where I jump the shark. Either way, like the inevitable bitching over a “controversy” that comes with every new anime season, I rise up from the darkness to deliver some hard hitting opinions about anime. This time however, I’m dropping a hot load of my own opinions about me! Buckle up, and check it out after the cut.

I was gonna use the Spider-man meme, but eh let’s keep this shit anime.

1. If you complained about how the new anime Fire Force was ‘sexist’ after the first episode. Then you are NEVER, EVER, going to be able to enjoy the anime medium.

2. My Favorite non anime piece of entertainment? David Lean’s Doctor Zhivago. An absolute masterpiece of cinema. My favorite TV show? Always Sunny in Philadelphia, followed by The Crown.

3. My favorite video game? Probably World of Warcraft, followed by Pokemon Gold/Silver, The Mass Effect Trilogy, and Fire Emblem Awakening

4. I’ve been to two anime conventions, Otakon and Fan Expo. I hated my experience there. I just don’t like the crowds and since I don’t care for panels, it’s really a glorified shopping spree. I love that people enjoy the crap out of them, but it’s just not for me.

5. I don’t know what’s stranger. The fact that Fakku and Hentai Haven had a legit tiff going on, or that there seems to be big money being thrown around licensing Hentai. I mean literally..Hentai. They had a booth at Anime expo and everything. That’s both amazing and so fucked up.

6. Favorite Junk Food? Pizza, followed closely by Nachos. Yum Yum.

7. I’m coming to the conclusion that the main reason I fell out of love with Anime was because I was sick to fucking death of shonen, and frankly I haven’t really been able to get back into the genre. Shame, cause I heard My Hero Academia is pretty good.

8. I’ll probably do another review of a hentai sometime down the line. Don’t know which one though yet.

9. My massive, almost unhealthy, and quite frankly strange dislike for Shinmai Maou no Testament has pushed me to write my own Harem/Ecchi novel, pretty much built to be my personal (but respectful) rebuttal to that entire story. 90k words in right now, i’m quite impressed.

10. The culture war that tore apart young adult fiction, video games, and Star Wars is coming for anime. It may be five years, it may be ten years, it may be two years, but it is coming. I dread that day when it comes, but I also believe that Anime is in a much healthier place to weather the storm. I may come off as a bit of a doomsayer around these parts for that, but I do truly honestly believe that this is something we are going to have to deal with sooner or later.

  1. “If you complained about how the new anime Fire Force was ‘sexist’ after the first episode. Then you are NEVER, EVER, going to be able to enjoy the anime medium.”

After watching the first episode, after carefully considering the evidence and perspectives, I’ve come to a conclusion: A goddess exerting her power over men cannot be sexist. The concept contradicts itself.

“Shame, cause I heard My Hero Academia is pretty good.”

I predict there will come a time when you remember why you loved anime in the first place. Interestingly, My Hero Academia might help remind you.

And it will break on us like waves on rock. Because I think you’re right when you say, “but I also believe that Anime is in a much healthier place to weather the storm.”

Humans are very confused right now. It might be about time we remind them what’s important.

  2. The culture war coming to anime seems depressingly inevitable. It’s like a plague of locusts; when the people responsible finish making a mess of one community, they move on to the next. Still, as you say, we can weather that storm when we get to it — and given the crossover between the parts of gaming culture in particular who have had to deal with this nonsense for a while now, anime fans can count on some support, I’m sure. I just wish it didn’t have to come to this.

Moving to an unrelated point, I love how much more “accepted” hentai has become now. There’s a lot of great artists putting out quality filth on a regular basis, and I’m happy to see there are now ways to officially support those creators. I haven’t bought any Fakku books myself, but I’m very tempted indeed — and I was super-happy when they brought Honey Select Unlimited over, since that game is legendary. I don’t quite understand what’s going on between them and HH right now and frankly I don’t really care all that much; I’m so fatigued by perpetual online beeves that I don’t feel inclined to pay attention to any of them any more!
