On my Radar for Fall 2019: The (Mostly) Three Episode Check-In!

The Fall season is chugging along and it has been a rather surprising run so far. With several great shows that are picking up the slack for a rather off year, though after the all around banner one 2018 was, perhaps we are just being a bit too hard. Either way it’s been almost three episodes now for most shows and I’m here to let you know what my thoughts are! I’ve added a few more to the list as well so join me after the cut!

Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia

Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia
Fuck the Fate GO Gacha

My thoughts after 3 episodes: Again, Fuck FateGO’s gacha system.

If I had to rank Fate/Grand Order Babylonia in terms of the Fate series, I’d so far put it above Last Encore, but below Fate/Apocrypha, which I think is fitting. It’s got great potential, some really solid animation, and an interesting story, but it also has dropped us square in ‘Part 7’ of the story. Game fans will be happy, but I expect most casual Fate fans or newcomers to be totally lost. I’m enjoying it because I absolutely adore Fate, but if I didn’t, I don’t think there is much here.

Except for the booty.

CURRENT STATUS: Bootylicious (and still watching)

Assassins Pride

Assassins Pride
No Failed Knight, no Chivalry, or an Asterisk War.

My thoughts after 3 episodes: While this show hasn’t been dropped yet, it is the next one on the chopping block. It’s got a good story, but it is nothing that I haven’t seen before. I want to give this one more time, but if by episode six nothing has really changed, then we’ll have to part ways.

CURRENT STATUS: ‘Eh’ about it, but still watching.

No Guns Life

No Guns Life
The season’s most iconic ‘original’ character.

My thoughts after 3 episodes:This series has been an absolute blast so far, brimming with creativity and originality. I’m just loving every second I am watching this show and I’m really interested to see if it can hold the pace. It could easily be the next Tiger and Bunny, or it could go the route of Double Decker! Let’s hope for Tiger and Bunny.

CURRENT STATUS: Locked and Loaded for this shit.

Babylon

Babylon
My palette cleanser.

My thoughts after 3 episodes: Holy shit.

I never knew I needed something as much as I have this. Babylon has been just the palette cleanser I needed. A straight crime thriller that just happens to be an anime. While things have gotten a bit more ‘interesting’ in the last episode, this show just has me by the seat each second it’s on. I said before that this is either going to the best anime of the season, or the first one I dropped. So far it has been the best non-ecchi/harem in Fall 2019. Don’t sit on this one guys.

CURRENT STATUS: Loving it…to death.

Val x Love

Val x Love
Ugh…

My thoughts after 3 episodes: I tried. I really did.

I tried so hard to love you Val x Love. You had an easy shot. Just throw some plot building and introduction episodes and you would have been a surefire contender for ecchi of the year. Instead you decided to go the route of Master of Ragnarok and just throw us into a story where we don’t have any attachment to the characters. It’s the laziest of lazy, and honestly this is probably the worst anime of the year.

Thank god for Hensuki and Wave Girls

CURRENT STATUS: DROPPED

Oresuki: Are you the only one who loves me?

Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo
Hmmmm…

My thoughts after 3 episodes: Right away, Oresuki wins the award for best pilot episodes of a series. Nothing had me laughing, wondering and just thinking than this show’s first episodes. This anime has been a weird beast, at first making me think that it’s what I’ve wanted: A ReZero like take-down of the harem genre that I so love. But then that plot collapses in on itself in dramatic fashion by episode three. Where it is going next is going to be real interesting. I don’t know if it is a work of genius, or a hot mess. But I am absolutely IN for the ride.

CURRENT STATUS: Watching and Pondering with best girl of Fall: Pansy.

The Hero is Overpowered, but Overly Cautious

Shinchou Yuusha: Kono Yuusha ga Ore Tueee Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru
Where have I seen this before….

My thoughts after 3 episodes: If you were ever curious of just how popular and impactful Konosuba was, look no further than Cautious Hero. It’s a show that seems cut right from the same cloth, a loving pie thrown in the face of the now very, very, VERY established Isekai Genre. Series female lead Ristarte has been an absolute riot, and carries on the spirit left by Konosuba’s Aqua, while doing enough to make her stand out. For this seasons’s Isekai feast, this is the one that’s got me interested. Give it a shot, if only for the memes.

CURRENT STATUS: Watching, but only after i’m FULLY prepared.

  1. OreSuki is the best series at the moment for me. So funny! I’m also enjoying High School Prodigies have it Easy Even in Another World.

As a casual Fate series viewer, you are bang on with this one. It looks nice and I feel like I want to enjoy it, but it feels like they’ve left so much out and as you say, it’s part 7 so come on!

Cautious Hero has made me laugh so far and Assassin’s Pride could be interesting, but it’s not gelling with me. Azur Lane is over for me. Three episodes in and I am bored out of my mind.
