Housekeeping: Spring Plans and Beyond!

Hey guys.

It’s been a wild few weeks here at Shallow Dives in Anime, and now that most of the dust has cleared, I wanted to take the time to let people know where we are, and where we are going. Also I didn’t want to have a Don’t @ Me where I just bitched about people bitching about anime piracy. So join me after the cut as I dive into some housekeeping for the blog!

School Days and Yosuga no Sora

It’s been a couple of interesting weeks of late in terms of review. Posts about Yosuga no Sora and School Days have been front and center. I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to ever blog about those two shows, however I am so glad I did, because it’s been good for the blog, and just fun to talk about something people haven’t really ever taken serious. I was very close to finishing off “the trilogy” with a look at the series Aki Sora, but I decided to hold off, but that will be coming sometime in the future. Either way, it was a blast to do these series. I stand by everything I said about them and I hope to continue that trend going forward.

Upcoming Shallow Dives

The great thing about this season of anime being rather ‘meh’ (with only Reviewers and Eizoken being the real major standouts), is that it has given me time to go back and look at the backlog which I actually made some good progress on since last time. While I still have my list of series I want to get through, I am committed to getting them done whenever I can. I won’t give out any concrete dates, but some of the series I’m planning on reviewing are

Konosuba Season 2 (this week actually!)

Shomin Sample

Zombieland Saga

Yamada and the Seven Witches

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc

Out of all of those, Berserk is probably the farthest away. I would like to get that done this year, but something like that will require a bit more time to really dig into. Rest assure that I haven’t forgotten about it though. Shows like Shomin Sample and Kobayashi should be a bit sooner though, but again, I don’t want to give any concrete dates. And of course, this April I will be finally, FINALLY reviewing the only other series aside from Shinmai Maou that has dogged my footsteps for years. A series that has haunted my mind for months upon months: Chivalry of a Failed Knight.

Beyond these, I don’t have much planned for future reviews since I like to keep my self flexible (more on that below) but there are few series that are I am planning to look at one point or another.

Infinite Stratos

Sword Art Online

Steins;Gate 0

Quintessential Quintuplets (Manga version)

Aki Sora

Heaven’s Feel III. Spring Song

Light Novels and Visual Novels

I’ve really been enjoying me foray into Light Novels in the last few months, I already have several series I am working on. You can expect a review on the second volume of How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord sometime this week or next. I am planning on doing a full novel by novel review of If It’s for My Daughter I’d even Defeat a Demon Lord, mostly because I want to see how the series deals with the changing dynamics of the main relationship. You can also expect more reviews on Goblin Slayer, but those are taking a backseat at the moment as I focus more on For my Daughter and Demon Lord.

In terms of Visual Novels, this is a bit different. I am currently slowly making my way through both Nekopara Vol 1, and Steins;Gate Elite. While Nekopara will probably come out in the near future, Steins;Gate has honestly been a bit of a chore to get through. I’ve found myself very much in the same place I was when I tried to read the VN of Unlimited Blade Works, the anime is such the superior product that it has been very hard to go back to the ordinal source material. I am going to keep with it, but Steins;Gate is probably a ways off to being done. I wouldn’t be surprised it if takes until the end of the year, others things are taking priority.

Hentai

I never thought this would happen. But I’ve decided that Hentai reviews are going to become a regular part of this blog. It won’t be happening every week, but I have decided that I will be giving some series a Shallow Dive. I’m quite surprised at how much fun it has been to write about them, especially series like Sense of Values of Wine, Bible Black and even LOVE³ -Love Cube- I expect most of my posts will follow the same format as my one on Swing Out Sisters, but either way you can expect more of these in the future, with our next one Resort Boin coming out this week!

The Summer of Love II

This is still on track to happen, and the full announcement will be coming sometime in May. I’m pretty sure people have already guessed what series it is (It was down between two), and I am pumped to get into this when the time comes.

Final Thoughts

I’ll be honest. I thought after a year and a half I would have hit burnout or just given up on the blog. However I’ve never felt more invested and happy working on the blog then I have these last few weeks and months. I feel I’m locked into a comfortable schedule (but not married to it), a respectable readership, and I’m talking about what I want to talk about and doing it decently. Again, Shallow Dives will never be a big blog with oodles of followers, but this has always been a passion project for me, and it’s going to stay that way. I don’t know what the future holds, but I am committed to sticking around for as long as I have the will to.

So you can expect plenty more Don’t @ Me, Character Dives, Tune of the Week, and whatever insane community tag I can come up with next. It’s a fun little hobby, and I am eager to dive into the absolutely stacked (slightly less with that ReZero delay sadly) couple of anime seasons this year.

As always my heartfelt thanks to CrowIrinaLynnKarandiScottYomu and Pete for always liking or sharing my posts and welcoming my comments. A big thanks goes to new contacts such as Jon Spencer, iniksbane and infinitezenith for always being there for chat or comment. I hope you’ve all been enjoying the blog as much as I enjoy working on it. Make sure to follow me on Twitter at @ShallowDivesAni if you aren’t already.

And most of all, thank you all for reading my blog.

  1. “A series that has haunted my mind for months upon months: Chivalry of a Failed Knight.”

Very cool. I’m really, really curious to learn why that series seems to evoke such a negative response!

I’m also looking forward to your Infinite Stratos review. For whatever reason, as shallow as it was, I loved that series. The characters were a lot of fun, and it was one of the more thoughtful settings for a harem.

I’d like to second Irina’s comment, too!

    • I got a lot of personal baggage I gotta sort through.

And yes, I own both seasons of Infinite Stratos (got the super deluxe edition of season 2 for pennies on a Rightstuf Sale), and that will likely be a project after The Summer of Love II.
