Don’t @ Me: Six of my Anime Opinions: Announcements Edition II

Well things have happened! Welcome to Don’t @ Me, the place where apparently everything BUT High School DxD, gets new shit, and I drop my thoughts and ideas on everything anime and manga related. This week we discuss the recent news! Let’s get into it after the cut.

A second key visual for the "Majo no Tabitabi" (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) TV anime has been revealed. There will be a new visual every month starting in April (C2C)
Oh, and we talk about Elaina too.

1. Surprising no one, Kaguya-Sama has been greenlit for a third season. This is great news all around. It really has been one of the best shows this year, and is 90% going to win my anime of the year award again. To see the story go forward is a great treat.

2. Also, because the story is aptly able to move past it’s initial premise so successfully, I think we are in it for the long haul. Let’s just hope it doesnt’ shit the bed like so many other romantic anime do.

3. Steins;Gate is getting a new visual novel! Again, great news for Steins;Gate fans, and while I am not a big fan of the series in visual novel form (I really need to fucking try it again), I’m sure this continuation will be good, whether it is a direct sequel or something different.

4. CLAMP’S Tokyo Babylon, is apparently getting an anime. I’ve heard that this is a classic among the CLAMP menu, and I’m sure it will be good, and full of illogical bullshit that you need a flowchart for.

5. I’m surprised that people are turning against Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. I mean, you know it’s not suppose to be Cardcaptor Sakura right? Elaina isn’t suppose to go around saying “Daijobu”. Life is as cruel as it is loving, and the show has done a great thing with that so far. Eh, maybe people are just mad it isn’t the same as that other similar series.

6. I mean, I’ve accepted that High School DxD might be done after 4 seasons, but FUCK was I hoping that this would be it’s year. I guess we just have to do what the author says and buy the English light novels. I still hold out hope, but I’ve also come to terms that this might be it.

  1. “Elaina” bears a strong resemblance to “Kino’s Journeys.” People who tuned in were probably expecting something more like “Little Witch Academia.” Rather than simply say wasn’t what they expected and simply move on to other things, it is easier to blame the anime for not being what it was never intended to be.

Personally, I like the dark shift. Controversy is good for anime anyhow.

I’m excited about it. I loved xxxHOLiC, and though I couldn’t get into Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, I like CLAMP’s aesthetic.

“I’m surprised that people are turning against Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina.”

Me, too. Quite a bit. But what surprises me even more is the vehemence I’m seeing. It’s not that some folks don’t like it. It’s that they hate it!

Personally, I’m enjoying it even more after ep 4 than I did during 1 or 2. I love how different Elaina is than Izuku Midoriya.

“I mean, I’ve accepted that High School DxD might be done after 4 seasons, ”

I say, never give up! I really didn’t expect to get a fourth season, and darned if it wasn’t one of the better ones. Didn’t think I’d like the change in art style; I misjudged myself, though!

Nope. Folks are mad because the show has pulled a bait-and-switch. The first two episodes set us up for Elania’s growth and development and future adventures… And the second two episodes have utterly failed to deliver on that implied promise. She’s gone from an active participant in her own story to being a rather boring, pedestrian non-participating narrator.
