The Summer of Love III: A Fate/Illya Primer!

Hey guys

The Summer of Love III, our three month look at the series Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya will begin at the start of June. However before we get started I wanted to throw up a post, like I did with High School DxD and Date A Live to answer some questions and lay out how everything is going to go. Please note somethings are subject to change depending on life goes, but I’m pretty sure I can manage it. Let’s get into it after the cut!

Laying shit out like Mimi is writing her boylove stories.

Why Fate/Illya?

Because I love this show.

Long answer? Fate/Illya has always been a favorite of mine. I love the humor, the interesting take on the Fate universe, and seeing Illya, who gets screwed over in almost every route of the OG series, have a fun life is nice to see. It’s got plenty of humor, legit good action at points, and gets actually really compelling by the later half.

Wait, isn’t this the show where Kuro runs around and hentai kisses everyone?

Yes, and I’m going to take time to address that.

Are you watching the Japanese or the English Version?

Like with Date A Live and High School DxD, I will be watching the series in the original Japanese. I think it is important to watch the show it is truest form to be as fair and balanced as possible.

Is the English Dub Worth Watching?

Honestly, no. While the two previous series had good to great dubs, Fate/Illya was dubbed by Sentai Filmworks and while they good a decent job, it does not have the same cast as the other Fate series. It’s a big of a shame, and frankly because Fate/Illya does not have a full complete dub, there is little point in talking about it.

How many episodes are you watching at time?

With four seasons and a movie, Fate/Illya fits perfectly into the three month time-frame of The Summer of Love. I plan on reviewing each season in two parts, 5 episodes at a time. Since most of the seasons are divided into two arcs (though sometimes smaller) this just make things very manageable.

Will you be watching the movie: Oath Under Snow? What about Prisma Phantasm?

Absolutely. It’s part of the canon, the last thing that came out and something that is just fun to watch. As for Prisma Phantasm, I haven’t found it anywhere, so I don’t think so. If I do, I’ll try to squeeze it in.

So what is the schedule if you have one?

This is not ironclad, something will probably screw this up, but the layout of The Summer of Love II is below. I’ll also be trying to get another version of “What fellow bloggers think of Date A Live,” post as well!

First Week:  Fate/Illya episodes 1-5

Second Week: The Music of Fate/Illya

Third Week:  Fate/Illya episodes 6-10

Fourth Week:  A Post about Kuro.

Week 1:  Fate/Illya season 2 episodes 1-5

Week 2: Fate/Illya season 2 episodes 6-10

Week 3:  Fate/Illya season 3 episodes 1-5

Week 4:  Fate/Illya season 3 episodes 6-10

Week 1: Character Dive on Illyasveil von Einzbern

Week 2: Fate/Illya Season 4 episodes 1-6

Week 3: Fate/Illya Season 4 episodes 7-12

Week 4: Oath Under Snow Film

Final reflection on the series.

Why not just binge the series a season at a time? Or review episode by episode.

There a couple reasons for this. One is that I want to avoid burn out by watching the entire series. There are only so much a man can handle. Secondly I have always disliked episode to episode reviews of shows because they don’t allow either myself or viewers to get a whole view of a story arc. Furthermore reviewing the whole season at once prevents me from covering everything that happens. So one story arc at a time seems about right.

Who is best girl?

Illya, always.

So adorable.
