Winter 2022 has been a very off season, with most of what is to come being held back so a certain anime can have the limelight all to itself. However those who have been patient are going to be rewarded with a massive slate of great shows. While it is a wee bit early, I want to tell you what’s on my radar for next season! Remember that this list is subject to change, but let’s get into it after the cut!
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2
My initial thoughts: It’s great to see this series back, especially after it was raked over the coals by ‘the discourse’. I have always enjoyed this show, but I am curious what people will think of it now that we are in a post Jobless world. Still, it’s here, it’s great, and the haters can fucking eat it.
Date A Live IV
My initial thoughts: A new season, a new studio. Date A Live is the little ecchi/harem show that could. I enjoyed the third season despite a significant downgrade in animation, but hopefully that will be rectified this time around. People of this blog know how much I love this series, and I do wonder if this will be the ecchi that breaks the ‘four season barrier’. Either way, the girls are back!
Spy X Family
My initial thoughts: This is going to be the show that has the highest chance of being the ‘big hit’ of the season. The manga is massively popular, the characters and premise are genius, and Anya’s faces are waiting to be memed. Avoiding the pitfalls of Netflix jail that Komi suffered. I have no doubt that Spy x Family is going to be on the top of ALOT of people’s lists this year. It’s just that good.
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Season 3
My initial thoughts: Kaguya’s sama second season was my choice for Anime of the Year when it debuted. One of the few shows and sequels to score the ‘perfect 12’ of having not a single clunker in its run time. Funny, heartwarming, amazing music, and a cast that is perfect. Kaguya’s third outing will hopefully continue this trend, especially as the plot starts to shift away from its status-quo.
Tiger and Bunny 2
My initial thoughts: I don’t talk about it much, but I loved Tiger and Bunny when it first came out. It was one of the few shows I watched during my ‘wilderness years’ away from the anime world, and fuck was it good. The second season may be stuck in Netflix jail, but I’ll damn well check it out. Let’s hope the good times keep rolling for this.
