It’s time to take a gander at how spring 2022 has been shaping up! True to form this season has been loaded with good series and plenty of awesome sequels. I will note that I pushed my look at Tiger and Bunny 2 until later in the year (seeing it with friends) How is it fairing so far though? Well let’s get into it after the cut with our three episode check-in!
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2
My thoughts after 3 episodes: I haven’t read the light novels so I don’t have that dislike some people have because of cut scenes, but Shield Hero is doing pretty fine so far. As expected, the arrival of Jobless Reincarnation has made this anime look a bit weaker, but everything you like is still here, and it hasn’t been overly bad. Let’s keep that going.
STATUS: Holding aggro.
Date A Live IV
My thoughts after 3 episodes: The fourth season of Date A Live has been a tremendous return to form. Fantastic art, fantastic music, and a starting arc that brought the good parts of the series into full force. It won’t ever achieve the depth of High School DxD, but after the roughness of the last seasons, this is so happy to see.
STATUS: Drawing manga..for love?
Spy X Family
My thoughts after 3 episodes: Surprising absolutely no one, Spy x Family has been a monster of a hit, reaching down and touching the veins of the entire anime fandom. So far the anime has absolutely been blessed with everything it needs to succeed. And there were parts of the manga that I think are better (Anya’s reactions). The rest has been a master-class in adaptation. Believe the hype, this one is a keeper.
STATUS: Saving my East/West relations.
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Season 3
My thoughts after 3 episodes: Right, I honestly think there might have been some deal with the devil when it comes to this series. How can a show like this continue to maintain this level of quality and humor? Why hasn’t it burn itself out yet? I honestly don’t fucking know, cause Love is War not only continues to have a perfect game, but has actually stopped me from watching the other romantic comedies this season. Why watch those when I can just watch Kaguya? I don’t want to give this anime another best of the year award, but fuck it just might.
STATUS: Dealing with the Devil.
