The Summer of Love IV with Cardcaptor Sakura

Hey guys.

Well it is once again time for this! For the last three years I’ve spent every summer taking a real hard look at a certain series. A series that is part of my past, or something that really pulls me in. We’ve examined my all time favorite series High School DxD. We’ve taken a look at the beloved underdog Date A Live, and stepped into the world of Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya. All of these have been great series with their ups and downs, and once again we discussed another series. With that I am proud to reveal The Summer of Love IV.

Cardcaptor Sakura

Why Cardcaptor Sakura?

This show was the second of a pair that got me back into the anime fandom. After years in the wilderness, I stumbled upon a few episodes on YouTube and ended up binging the entire thing. It is a cutesy and loving show with great humor and with warmth that can melt even the most cold of hearts. It is also a fun and interesting world with concepts and ideas that have becoming mainstays among the anime industry. This is a legacy show of the magical girl genre, one of the oldest examples of the concept. To go back and explore that is interesting to me, and frankly, it’s just a fucking good show.

So starting through June and running until the end of August. Shallow Dives in Anime will be going through all 70+ episodes as well as the final film. I’ll discuss each overall ‘arc’, the central characters and the music. I’ve been looking forward to this all year, and I can’t wait to once again step back into this world and see if I can answer the question.

“Why is Cardcaptor Sakura so good?”

I hope you will all join me in this little adventure, and what is probably an extremely overblown look into a show where a girl dresses up in outfits to capture spirits that could probably destroy the planet, but won’t cause this is a cutesy show god dammit!
