Don’t @ Me: Six of my Anime Opinions: Almost Summer Edition

It’s Monday, which means it is time for this! Welcome back to Don’t @ Me! The place where, like the creeping feeling that summer is coming, I get amped up to give you my thoughts, opinions and views on everything in the anime and manga world. This week, power has been restored and I’ve been celebrating cause fuck, it’s almost summer! Let’s get into it after the cut.

  1. First off, congrats to Gigguk and Sydsnap for their wedding! I know many don’t view the anitube community that fondly (for reasons both good and bad), but they have always remembered where they came from and don’t stir the pot. I wish them all the best.
  1. The first ten episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura where an absolute fucking delight to watch. Like damn, I remembered it pretty well but I forgot how wholesome it is. What a joy, and damn I’m itching to watch more.
  1. The Wano arc in One Piece has finally ended and it was a pretty good one. Probably a bit too long, but things seem to blur together once you can binge it from front to back. I don’t know if Yamato will actually join the crew, but hey the main cast needs another female desperately. (Or whatever Yamato is, I don’t care, get those hands off the keyboard)
  1. Considering that Netflix is bleeding subscribers, I am surprised they haven’t gone whole-hog into anime. It probably wouldn’t put them back in the black, but it would be something.
  1. Though I do think that the ship might have sailed for any other company to get a real foothold in the western anime market. Sure Disney could (and probably will) try to buy a studio or something, but it seems like any other company has lost their chance.
  2. The longer I spend on the outskirts of the anime fandom online, the less and less I really seem to care. There are too many absolutes. Either you have to love something unconditionally, or hate it completely? Is there any room for nuance anymore? There is nothing wrong with ‘good enough’ or ‘mid’ shows. In fact, those are just as important as the big hitters. I don’t know, maybe I am just old.
