On my Radar for Summer 2022: The Three Episode Check-In!

Summer 2022 continues and so far, it has been another middle of the road fare. Some good shows, but nothing that has been ‘great’. As always, I like it when the anime industry ‘see-saws’ with its work, because having back to back amazing seasons can be overwhelming. With that said let’s take a look at the series I’m watching now that they are three episodes in!

The Devil is a Part-Timer Season 2

My thoughts after two episodes: The big show of the season, a cult classic for many people. So far it has been a warm welcome back, with the characters slipping right back into their roles and the ‘fish out of water’ premise clicking perfectly. The addition of the cute Alas Ramas is a nice change-up for the status-quo. Here’s hoping the rest of the season is as solid as this has been.

STATUS: Getting some black-pepper fries.

Overlord IV

My thoughts after 3 episodes: Watching Overlord is like watching a slow-moving car crash. Humanity is so unbelievably fucked, and we are just experiencing it. I’ve learned that this show is more about people reacting TO Ainz, instead of it being ABOUT Ainz. Once I got that figured out, my enjoyment has increased and that has continued for this fourth season as it brings back everything that is enjoyable. Also that opening song is just killer.

STATUS: Causing a Gilgamesh clone to lose his hair.

A Harem in a Fantasy World Labyrinth

My thoughts after one episode: I want to watch this series, but I can’t do it unless I find the uncensored version. So until then I’m going to put this show on hold. I did watch the first episode, and I will say it’s more of the trashy indulgent stuff that all ecchi fans love. Hopefully I can return to it soon.

Parallel World Pharmacy

My thoughts after three episodes: I thought this was going to be an easy drop, but fuck if the Isekai genre doesn’t keep me going. The new sub-genre of “guy is reincarnated in another world to do a really boring ass job” shouldn’t work, but never put that past anime. Pharmacy has balanced fun story, cute characters, and some really interesting looks on how medicine is made. I don’t know if it is a better version of ‘Monster Girl Doctor‘, but so far, so good.

STATUS: Taking two Advil and sleeping it off.

Engage Kiss

My thoughts after three episodes: This was another show that I felt I might have dropped, but it has been able to keep my interested. The concept of our main lead giving up his memories of his girlfriend to try and hunt monsters is an interesting concept. As is having to French-kiss his hot obsessed pink haired demon girl. The animation as been solid and the world feels fun, so I’m going to keep going and see where this take us.

STATUS: Living off bean sprouts.
