Fall 2022 has shaped up to be a real smasher of a season so far, one with many big hits and some surprising small ones. With a few weeks under our belt, it’s time to see how things are shaping up. Note that I have pushed Golden Kamuy off this list. Not because I haven’t enjoyed it, but that it is more a show I binge when I feel like it. You can still expect my thoughts on that later. Now let’s get into it all after the cut.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War
My thoughts after three episodes: Bleach wasted no time getting right to the point and so far has been a great ride. While it is way too early for it to start paying off, the animation, pacing and overall vibe of the show is nothing but fantastic so far. My thoughts later in the season will be crucial to how this show plays out, but for now, it’s smooth sailing.
STATUS: Number One!
My thoughts after three episodes: I’m committed to seeing this show through it’s 12 episode run, but I have to be honest. I’m not seeing what people love about this show. It looks good and is action packed, but there is nothing in this show that I haven’t seen before. I’ve heard it gets better and really intense down the line, but for someone who went in only hearing every one creaming their pants over this show, I don’t know what it is so special. Let’s hope that changes up soon.
STATUS: Coping a feel while eating some bread.
Spy x Family Second Cour
My thoughts after three episodes: It really does suck that this show will be overshadowed by the ‘shonen bias’ the community has, because SpyxFamily remains absolutely fucking fantastic. Every episode has been great and the new opening is absolutely breathtaking in terms of its animation. This series has hit nothing but net and it’s great to see it back so soon.
STATUS: I’m Starlight Ana!!!!!!
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury
My thoughts after three episodes: ‘Gundam with Lesbians’ wasn’t something I expected this show to be, but I’m not complaining about it. While I haven’t been salivating over this show like ‘the discourse’ has been. It’s well animated and has enough of a story right now to keep me interested. The creators of the series went on record saying that Gundam needs to incorporate new genres into it in order to survive and honestly? After MMA Gundam, Toy Commercial Gundam, and whatever the fuck Reconquista in G was. I think ‘Gundam, but Utena‘ will go down just fine.
STATUS: Stammering my way through robot battles.
The Eminence in Shadow
My thoughts after three episodes: I love this show. I love this show so FUCKING much. From the insane premise, the cleavage, the character designs, the cleavage, the fact that the main character is pretending to be an edgelord, but everything he believes is actually happening and he is unaware. I have not fallen in love with a show faster than this. I expected this to be dull drop, but it is anything but.
STATUS: Getting my evil lair in order.
Akiba Maid War
My thoughts after three episodes: Imagine Zombieland Saga, but replace the idols with cafe maids, and the zombies with yakuza. That’s pretty much this show. A bullet and blood filled grind through the gangster genre but with maids who run a pig-themed cafe. It’s pretty damn insane and fully committed to what it is. Whether that works for you is up to your tastes, but damn is it something else.
