I’m doing this a little earlier than planned, but I go plenty to do this week regardless. While 2020 may have been a shit year for most people, it has been an absolute banger for anime. So many great series, so much good music (like oh my god so much good music), and so many cute girls. I already gave my thoughts on what I thought the best and worst was at the halfway point, but now it is time to show you my final selections. After the cut let’s get into the best, and worst of anime in 2020.
The anime starring the biggest chad of 2020 wouldn’t be complete with a kick ass opening song. The Tune of the Week is the opening theme for The Misfit of Demon King Academy: Correct Incorrect by Civilian
Some shows have great stories. Some shows having characters that move the soul. Ones that take you on journey of highs and lows. Some anime talk about the human condition, others are epic battles, or comedic slices of life. Some take you to another world, while others just have too many girls to choose from. It is that variety of choice that has made Anime so great, but like with everything, sometimes you just need to have junk food. A show that doesn’t do anything but tickle that indulgence you always had, regardless of its strange plot, empty characters, or sometimes baffling decision. That is the kind of anime we are talking about today. After the cut let’s take a dive into The Misfit of Demon King Academy.
It is not hyperbole to say that ReZero is not only one of the best anime of the last few years, but one of the best anime in general. It is one of the two shows that brought me back to anime in general, it’s themes of redemption, anger, jealously, entitlement, and self reflection struck a cord with viewers. Also there was Rem, who might have been one of the best waifu designs in the last 5 or so years.
But would a second season be able to carry that forward? Or would the show just end up being a one-hit wonder. We don’t have the answer yet, but after the first half, I think we can see where things are going so far. So after the cut, let’s take a dive into the first cour of the second season of ReZero: Starting Life in Another World
In this crazy world of anime, there are many shows that often take on a life of their own. Whether they become massive overhyped hits, meme worthy legends, so bad it’s good, or culture war flashpoints, every show is capable of leaving behind something. And there is no better case than the show we are talking about today. Join me after the cut as we dive into the anime series Uzaki-chan wants to hang out!
One of the best things about watching an anime, or any piece of entertainment is the sleeper hit. The shows that you pick up on a whim and find out you enjoy it quite a lot. This year we’ve had a few of those, with shows like BOFURI and Rent a Girlfriend. And the show we are discussing today can follow in that mold. After the cut, let’s take a dive into the anime series Monster Girl Doctor.
It’s really surprising that the Super Sentai genre, the show that gave the west Power Rangers, hasn’t really transferred over into anime. While there are some splashes like in the Super Robot genre, I don’t think I have seen an anime that is basically that Power Rangers genre. However the anime we are talking today does dabble in that world. After the cut, let’s take a look at SUPER HXEROS!
I’ll be honest here guys. My thoughts on the second cour of Fruits Basket is pretty much the exact same as the first. Everything I said in that last post hasn’t changed, like at all. So instead of just repeating myself, I highly suggest you check out what I said there, because it really does crystallize how I feel about the series right now.
That being said, there are some things I do wanna talk about, so after the image I’ll toss up my thoughts in point form. Please enjoy.
I’ve spoken about the state of Ecchi a bit on this blog. It is a very much a genre that waxes and wanes like the moon. Some years, like 2018 are banners ones, with great series like High School DxD Hero, and How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord. Other times you have years like 2019, where nothing really good comes out. 2020 so far has been a bit of both, with Interspecies Reviewers blowing all of our expectations out of the water, and everything else playing catch up.
One of the other ecchi series is what we are discussing today. So after the cut let’s take a dive into Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time.
Super HxEros is a show I really, REALLY want to see dubbed. Dubbed and fully uncensored. Because it is a show that is so over the top and stupid, that a company like Funimation would have a field day with it. No further proof can come from the opening theme. The Tune of the Week is the first opening to the series: Wake up Hx ERO! by Burnout Syndromes!
