The series is done. After three or so years, this legendary series has come to a close. Something that fans have been wanting for a long time, and that people like myself have heard about, but went along for the ride for the first time. A series full of ups and downs, great animation, wonderful music, and sometimes that monkey zodiac. It’s time now though, to give you my final thoughts, at least at this stage. Out of everything I’ve watched in 2020. This is the anime that was the most surprising one of them all. This blog is not new to Higurashi, a show that remains one of the more infamous shows of the fan-sub era. Full of horror, terror, and oozes of blood. It was one of the few shows to pull you in, and then be able to completely re-invent itself for its second half, and still remains good. I’m doing this a little earlier than planned, but I go plenty to do this week regardless. While 2020 may have been a shit year for most people, it has been an absolute banger for anime. So many great series, so much good music (like oh my god so much good music), and so many cute girls. I already gave my thoughts on what I thought the best and worst was at the halfway point, but now it is time to show you my final selections. 2020 has been a good year for anime. With many different shows that have tickled the fancies of several different genres. There has been some greats, some really greats, and some clunkers. However there wasn’t been a show much like the one we are discussing today. A show that in many ways people made out to be something it wasn’t, but is also something pretty damn special. Fall 2020 is getting near the now, and we are in the last quarter of the seasonal series! How are they holding up after eight episodes? Let’s see what’s on my radar after the cut!
It is not hyperbole to say that ReZero is not only one of the best anime of the last few years, but one of the best anime in general. It is one of the two shows that brought me back to anime in general, it’s themes of redemption, anger, jealously, entitlement, and self reflection struck a cord with viewers. Also there was Rem, who might have been one of the best waifu designs in the last 5 or so years.
But would a second season be able to carry that forward? Or would the show just end up being a one-hit wonder. We don’t have the answer yet, but after the first half, I think we can see where things are going so far.
