On my Radar for Summer 2022: Part-Timers, Harem Labyrinths and Overlords!

Spring 2022 is all but over and it has been a very solid outing. That also means that Summer is right around the corner. Taking a look at the list, it seems to be another lesser go around, with no real shows that are heavy-hitters. That said I got a few I want to watch, so let’s see what’s on my radar for Summer 2022 after the cut!

Parallel Paradise Volume 9: Non-consensual Cheek Touching

Our look at the manga series Parallel Paradise continues! This time we are going to keep things short and sweet with a point form approach. I am considering making this my main way of reviewing manga from this point on. Mostly because unless there is a massive revelation that warrants it, sometimes there isn’t enough to talk about. I’m still going to do this though, so after the cut let’s take a dive into the ninth volume of Parallel Paradise!

  • I find it funny that despite having the strength to kill pretty much everyone, Galia decides to just play by the rules and wait once a day. Maybe funny isn’t the right word, because it can reek a little bit of narrative control (the character is too powerful?). Still, it’s humorous.
  • Seeing Nagomi, one of Meese’s new guardians just get absolutely wrecked by Galia was sad, because she was actually pretty badass.
  • My new favorite character is absolutely Kia. I don’t know how you got the idea of having a smol witch girl who main weapon are fucking grenades, but well done Lynn Okamoto, you get a raise.
  • Despite being surrounded by girls who will blow him at the earliest chance, I do like how Yota point blank refuses to mate with Amane unless she gives her consent. Even when the girls literally bend her forward so she’s ready. It’s a good example that despite the world, Yota hasn’t been consumed by his own lust yet.
  • Furthermore, I like how Yota still considers himself a virgin because he gets to ‘cheat’ with how the girls react to his touch. Again, the man is trying to play it fair.
  • Lilia returning was cute, especially that despite the real crisis, she still has to ‘pay the piper’ by being near Yota. I also like that Yota doesn’t trust her like he did before, and says ‘don’t worry, you’ll live.”
  • Amane continues the trend of each of the girls Yota meets having a fetish of some sort. Once again I am certain that these woman were man-made sex-dolls at one point, and this only furthers my belief (I am current with the manga, so I still have yet to be proven either way.)
  • I don’t know if the story is trying to mix the real world (which Yota is apparently in) and magical technology is working real well. It’s cool to see the girls view things like card-keys and passwords as some sort of mystical object, but in the bigger picture there are some questions that are in need of answering.
  • The sex scene, the only one in the volume was pretty good this time, again it’s good to see Yota get back into things after he has (understandably) been so desensitized to it. His method of trying to get Amane into bed was also clever and helps blur the line on whether Yota is a hero or a kind of scumbag.
Grenades!!!
