If there is one anime that can be credited with getting my to start blogging, or frankly to start watching anime seriously again. It would be ReZero. I’ve told this story before, but for those new to Shallow Dives, let me explain once more. Around 2016 I was pretty much ‘done’ with anime. I had watched it all throughout my childhood, but at that point I had fallen off pretty hard. Most of my favorite series were wrapped or close to wrapping, and I had long come down from my Gundam kick. There was no bad blood, but I felt I had gotten ‘my fill’ from the anime world. It wasn’t until a friend suggested that I check out this show, that the dominos starting falling once more. The rest, if you’ve been following this blog for close to three years now, is history.
And so last month, I actually sat down and re-watched the entire first season front to back, the first time I’ve done it since the original airing. Did it hold up? Was it as a good as I thought, or had time worn off some of the shine? Well after the cut let’s re-dive into one of the most beloved Isekai series of the last decade: ReZero: Starting Life in Another World
Winter 2021 for anime has been another banger year in a recent trend of banger years. So many great shows, shows that would absolutely be year-end hits if not for the massive titan like shape looming over everything. We are eight episodes in now, so it’s time to give you my thoughts on what I’m watching after the cut!
Quick! Watch it before it goes away and we never see it again! Cause honestly, it’ll probably never show up in another episode. The Tune of the Week is the second opening theme for ReZero’s second season: Long Shot by Maeshima Mayu
Anime Winter 2021 has began in earnest and there is plenty to talk about! Shows have aired, boobs have been seen, feelings have been had, and shows have risen and fallen. With such a stacked season, there is plenty to watch, so after the cut here are my thoughts on my shows, three episodes in!
Fall 2020 is almost over, which means it is time to look at what’s in the future for 2021! We got plenty of continuations of great anime, but also some new stuff. After the cut let’s talk about wha shows will be on my radar this Winter!
It is not hyperbole to say that ReZero is not only one of the best anime of the last few years, but one of the best anime in general. It is one of the two shows that brought me back to anime in general, it’s themes of redemption, anger, jealously, entitlement, and self reflection struck a cord with viewers. Also there was Rem, who might have been one of the best waifu designs in the last 5 or so years.
But would a second season be able to carry that forward? Or would the show just end up being a one-hit wonder. We don’t have the answer yet, but after the first half, I think we can see where things are going so far. So after the cut, let’s take a dive into the first cour of the second season of ReZero: Starting Life in Another World
For a show that barely shows it’s opening or ending theme, ReZero has always had a few bangers. It’s latest ending is no exception. The tune of the week is the ending theme for the second season: Memento by Nonoc
Summer 2020 is entering the final stages and for reasons I won’t share, I’m an emotional wreck right now. Either way it’s time to check in with what I’m watching and see how we stand. Let’s get into our eight episode check-in after the cut!
Summer 2020 is humming along quite nicely! I’ve returned home to Canada and it’s time to check in on how things are doing anime wise. Three episodes for most series have already come and gone, so it’s time to see what we think!
That’s it..that’s all I got to say this time. Let’s uh…let’s get into it after the cut.
