Anime in 2022 is halfway over, and it has been a decent year so far. Nothing amazingly special, but still solid. Now that we’ve reached the halfway point, it’s time to give out my thoughts on what I think is the best, and the worst, of the year so far. This list will no doubt change by the time the end of 2022 rolls around, but here is where I stand! Let’s get into it after the cut.
Our look at light novel version of High School DxD continues! It’s been a bit since we got back into this beloved series, but I’ve finally wrapped up the second entry and I want to talk about it! Will this installment continue the good will established in the first, or does the anime do things better? After the cut let’s take a dive into the second volume of the series: The Phoenix of the School Battle! and find out!
This show just finished and it has been burning as red hot as Tanjiro’s sword! After the enjoyable but re-hashed Mugen Train arc, we have now moved into new territory with the next arc in the series and we are back to everything people love. But how much do they love it? After the cut let’s take a dive into the next chapter of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and find out. It’s the Entertainment District Arc!
I was expecting something like this to happen, and it did. While the MugenTrain movie smashed records, it was safe to assume that in preparation for the official second season, they would take the time to re-air the movie, edited out into a seven episode run. Sure enough that was what happened, but the question remains. Is it any good? Well let’s take a dive into the Mugen Train Arc and find out!
This is a film I’ve been sitting on for a few weeks but haven’t had anytime to take a look with other stuff going on. A week has opened up however, and I think it’s no better time than to get this out. This has been the big success story of the year, but how is it as an actual film? After the cut let’s take a dive into Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train
I enjoyed the first cour, but how good will the second hold up? Pretty good from what the fans and viewers have been saying. And since I want to save my introduction blurb until after the cut, let’s not waste anytime and get into the second cour of the hit new anime: Jujutsu Kaisen!
I’ve stated before that I am a lapsed Shonen fan. I have no dislike of the genre, more in that I’ve ‘had my fill’ from the Big Three and I have no real interest in going back down that rabbit. Despite that though, I’ve found myself slowly being pulled back into the genre with show like Demon Slayer and the one we are talking about today. I suppose you just can’t get away from it once your in! Either way, let’s take a dive into the first cour of Jujutsu Kaisen after the cut!
Last October and November, I decided to take a season long look at the manga series Black Cat. I discussed the manga from cover to cover, looked into the characters, the music and everything I could think of (cept the anime). As it was a series I always really enjoyed, I walked away respecting the manga for what it does so well: telling the story it wants, and then leaving the stage. After the cut, you’ll be able to see links to all the posts I did on the series, so I hope you enjoy!
Today, September 9th, marks the official second anniversary of this blog, which means that it is finally, finally time. Almost since the beginning there have been series that have dogged my footsteps. Shows that have lingered in the back of my mind, gnawing at my soul, telling me to ‘get over it and review them.” Last year, I finally revisited the infamous Shinmai Maou no Testament, putting to bed the long running joke of my hated (now more of a disgruntled respect) of that series.
However there is another series. One that has not yet been reviewed on this blog, simply because I have deeply personal issues that have prevented me from doing so. Issues that, when I honestly think about them, come off as vapid, silly, and frankly dumb. Yet I knew that if I took this blog to two years, that I would just bite the bullet and do it. And here we are.
Welcome to Shallow Dives in Anime. This is Chivalry of a Failed Knight.
This was a show that was pretty big a few months ago, and while the second season is currently airing, I dragged my feet on watching the first. I’ve said this before, but I am pretty much a lapsed Shonen fan at this point. I had my shows, I had my ‘time’ and most of what I see these days just doesn’t interest me. I’m sure they are absolutely great shows, but it’s not my thing anymore.
However every now and then I’m put those feelings aside and watch a good ol shonen. Or a show will come along that really pulls me in (Demon Slayer). The show we are talking about today is kinda that, but not really. After the cut let’s get into the first season of the hit anime of last year: Fire Force.
