This is a series I didn’t know I would revisit, but I won’t complain that I did. A show that is so legendary among the fans who love it, yet hasn’t got the praise and attention it might deserve. After watching it again what do I think though? Well after the cut let’s take a dive into Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These and find out.
What’s better than a war? A war fought in space, with hilariously attractive German men. The tune of the week is the opening them to Legend of Galactic Heroes: Skies of Love by Akiyoshi Michiru
Just a few weeks ago, I sat down and finally talked about Neon Genesis Evangelion, long regarded as a cult classic among those of the Toonami/4kids generation. I won’t rehash what I said there, but I knew that I was only getting at half the story. Because there is one other show that is often touted as a defining piece for the anime fans who grew up in that era. Well I finally got around to watching it, and I have some thoughts. After the cut let’s take a dive into Cowboy Bebop.
The series we are talking about today has a very special place in my heart. I was a die-hard Gundam fan in my youth, and while I’ve grown distant from it in recent years, there is a strong fondness still there. Gundam Wing was one of my first anime I watched, and I still enjoy it, despite not having aged well. However in the early 2000s, at the tail end of the 4kids-Toonami era, there was another Gundam series that came out. One with a better story, better animation, and some kick-ass music. Loved by many, and disliked by just as much, it is a series that has resonated to this day regardless. Now it is finally time for me to talk about it, so after the cut, let’s dive into the first story-arc of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: The Raid of Heliopolis and The Battle of Orbit!
Anime and Manga have always had a wonderful relationship with Space and Science Fiction. Series like Mobile Suit Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Space Battleship Yamato, Robotech, and Macross all have massive fanbases that have lasted for decades.
The series we are shallow diving into today is one such series and one that many western anime fans don’t seem to know about, or it has fallen between the cracks. After the cut let’s talk about the 2018 remake adaptation of Yoshiki Tanaka’s Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These.
We are gonna fight a Space War, and look hot doing it.
